Many CC affiliates and allied organizations work to convince decisionmakers at governments and institutions about the benefits and value of open licensing. This workshop would be an opportunity for attendees doing that work to report back what worked and what didn't, as well as a first step in increasing the sharing of education and advocacy materials.
In different contexts the effective arguments for open licensing and the successful rhetorical tools can differ. In this session, we hope to work with attendees to survey how different paths to convincing decisionmakers are effective in different contexts. From program specific benefits to economic arguments, building a library of materials and approaches is key to building on national and institutional successes around the globe. In contrast to other sessions, this workshop would not be cataloging implemented polices, but rather looking at what resources were created to do advocacy work, and how those different approaches were successfully or unsuccessfully tailored to specific advocacy or education campaigns.
