Unpacking an Activist Toolbox: EFF's Tools and Tips for Effective Copyright Advocacy

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

This is a hands-on activism training and strategy session for CC Affiliates. We'll explain the (mostly free software!) tools we use to engage in copyright activism, and unpack some hard-earned lessons on crafting effective campaigns.

We will discuss how to design issue-specific campaigns to engage with audiences beyond the core group of interested activists. For EFF and Creative Commons, this means taking copyright issues and the related freedom of speech, censorship, and privacy concerns to people who don't think they care about what a license is. We will unpack EFF's activism toolbox and talk through our techniques for amplifying our campaigns, including messaging and branding, social media tips, ways to identify political targets, and building international coalitions. We will use our project "The TPP Copyright Trap" as a case study to talk through our approach.
