This session will explore licensing solutions beyond copyright in the context of open hardware and design. Topics include:

  • CC + and its usefulness for expanding the utility of the CC license suite and CC0
  • extending CC licences and CC0 to ensure design rights in products such as 3D printed items are covered
  • a proposal for licensing patents alongside copyright: the Patent License Universal Grant (PLUG) license
  • certifying open hardware: accomplishments, lessons learned, and what's next
